1) League Treasurer

It was with great reluctance that the League accepted the resignation of Mr. Les Fisher from the position of League Treasurer, which will be effective from the end of the season, at the Management Committee meeting that was held on Wednesday, 26th March, 2008. Not surprisingly, the League wishes to record its most sincere thanks to Les for all his efforts with the League's financial affairs over the course of the last 5 years and this gratitude will, no doubt, be extended to Les more formally at the League's AGM in June.
In the meantime, however, the most pressing concern for the League is to identify Les' successor. Naturally, the League cannot operate at any level without a Treasurer and it would be grateful to hear from anyone who feels that they might be able to serve the League in this capacity. If you know of anyone who would be willing to put themselves forward for this vitally important role, please contact Nick Oram, the League's General Secretary, by Friday, 11th April, in the first instance. Thank you.

2) Evening Kick Offs

The time of year for late season evening matches is, once again, almost upon us and all clubs are referred to the final paragraph of league rule 10(b), which can be found on Page 25 of the Handbook, for guidance with regard to kick off times. In essence, all games in April should kick off not later than 6.15 pm except for those which are scheduled to be played during the week commencing Monday, April 21st, when kick off time should be no later than 6.30 pm.

In addition, the League would seek to draw the attention of all clubs to the wording of the third paragraph of page 25 of the handbook, again within rule 10(b), which deals with the duration of matches. Please note that, if a game is to last less than 90 minutes, this must be agreed before the start by both captains in conjunction with the referee and that the game must consist of two equal halves. In accordance with the stipulations of rule 10(b), the shortest time that can be set for a match is 60 minutes - ie 30 minutes each way.

3 Entry Forms

Any club which is in receipt of this newsletter and which has not returned the League Entry and Declaration forms to the League will be fined £25, in accordance with League Rule 14(a) unless the forms are in the possession of the General Secretary by Monday, 31st March. All clubs that have not returned the two forms by this date will have 7 further days to send the forms to the League's General Secretary. Any club that has still not returned the forms by April 7th will be charged with failing to satisfactorily attend to the business of the League, as stipulated by League Rule 5(h). Any fine imposed in accordance with this rule will be in addition to the original £25 and will be set at an amount that will be at the discretion of the League Management Committee

Those clubs that have returned the forms will receive their Supplementary Information forms in the near future. These forms will have to be completed and returned by June 1st, 2008.

4 County Cup Finals

The Cheltenham League has four representatives in County Cup Finals this year and FC Barometrics, Whaddon United Reserves, Tewkesbury Rovers and Tewkesbury Town Reserves are all to be congratulated for their achievement in reaching their respective finals. This means that the League has a finalist in each competition for which its clubs compete except the Senior Amateur Cup, which is customarily dominated by clubs from the Northern Senior League. All these finals will be played in April and the best wishes of the whole of the League go to our County Cup finalists.

5 Senior Charity Cup Final

The second Semi Final of the Senior Charity Cup was played at the beginning of March under floodlights at Kayte Lane, the home of Bishops Cleeve FC, and FC Barometrics booked their place in the final with a 6-5 penalty shoot out win over Winchcombe Town following a 3-3 draw. The date and time of the all-Division Two final between FC Barometrics and Whaddon United has been fixed for Wednesday, April 16th, 2006 with a 6.30 pm kick off and it will be played at Whaddon Road, the home of Cheltenham Town. This promises to be an excellent match so please do attend if at all possible.

6 Junior & Minor Charity Cups

The Semi Final's of the Junior and Minor Charity Cups will be played at the beginning of next month, on Wednesday 2nd and Wednesday 9th April. On 2nd April, Gaffers will take on Tewkesbury Rovers in the Junior Cup, whilst FC Barometrics Reserves will meet Star FC III in the Minor Cup. A week later, on April 9th, Broadway United and Falcons clash in the Junior Cup, at the same time as C & G and Gaffers Reserves play each other in the Minor Charity Cup.
In keeping with the practice established last year, all of these games will be played at The Newlands, the former Smiths Sports & Social Club, although this year there will be a £1 charge for admission to these games, with entry for children free. All proceeds from these charges will go to charity so, if you are able to attend, please make sure you pay the entry fee and, in doing so, help the League to help some really worthwhile causes.
The dates on which the Final tie of each of these competitions is to be played will be announced in due course.

7 Human Table Football

The League has been asked to make mention of a Human Table Football tournament that is to be held on Saturday, 7th June, 2008 at Agg Gardners Playing Fields. The cost of entry is £10 a team and all proceeds will be donated to both the Boys Brigade and Acorns Childrens Appeal. All teams will get at least three games and the first point of contact is John Tibbles, at "ja.tibbs@btinternet.com" or on 07802 935482.
