Cheltenham League Notice Board
The Cheltenham League has a new Patron and a new President following the AGM that was held at the Victory Club on Wednesday, 7th June. After 62 years, Dennis Barrett has ended his active involvement with the League and taken up the newly established position of Patron, which goes some way to reflect the esteem in which he is held for the contribution that he has made to the League. At the same time, the League was fortunate enough to be able to replace Mr Barrett as President with John Crowther, the Senior Vice Chairman and someone else who has given years of valuable service to the competition. 4 new clubs and six other new sides were admitted to the League following the unanimous approval of the League's constitution for next season. A diverse collection of new member clubs sees Broadway United return to the League from the Stratford-Upon-Avon Alliance, Smiths Barometrics, under the new guise of FC Barometrics, make the switch from the Cheltenham Sunday League, Newton Heath Reserves become Newton FC and Tivoli Rovers join the League a couple of months after their formation. None of the new clubs will be entering the League in Division Five, however. It was further approved that Newton FC should assume the place in Division One that was previously occupied by Newton Heath Reserves, whilst it was also agreed that FC Barometrics should be ceded straight into Division Two. Division Three welcomes Broadway United and Tivoli Rovers complete the set by going straight into Division Four. The League also welcomed reserve sides from Tewkesbury Dynamos, Gaffers and FC Electrics, whilst Gala Wilton III's return to the League after a couple of seasons away. Charlton Rovers also enter a third string, for the first time, and Brockworth Albion Reserves have made the switch from the Stroud League for the new season. Numerous rule changes were proposed and these were all voted in without amendment. It is no longer required that the shirts of outfield players should be numbered from 2-17 and referees will now have to be marked out of 100, rather than just 10. New rules concerning the fines that are applicable to rule 11(b) and 13(j) were also agreed. Finally, this years winner of the Bill Meadows Trophy, awarded to the Referee who achieved the highest average mark during the course of the season, went to Aubrey Hann and the John Ingram Trophy for Sportsmanship was awarded to AFC Southside. Further details on the meeting and other matters currently affecting the League will be available from the latest edition of the Newsletter, which will be posted on this website shortly. |
