Cheltenham League Notice Board

  • 08/05/2006 - Brian Leeke

It is the League's sad duty to report the death of Brian Leeke, who died recently and who's funeral is to take place at the Cheltenham crematorium on Tuesday 9th May at 12 noon. Brian started his footballing life with Prestbury Youth before moving on to play in goal for St Marks, where he was an integral part of that Club's most successful side during the 60's & &0's. During his time with St Marks, he helped the club to win numerous titles, including the very rare double of Northern Senior League Championship and Sportsmanship trophy in the same season. Following the end of his playing days, Brian became a referee and he quickly progressed to become both a Class 1 official and Chairman of the Cheltenham Branch of the Referees Association, for whom he also gave years of dedicated service as a referees coach. In his later years, Brian still remained involved in football and was to be seen every other week administering the car park at Whaddon Road each time Cheltenham Town played at home.

Donations in Brian's memory, in aid of the Oncology Trust Fund, should be made to Mason & Stokes, 54, Hewlett Road, Cheltenham.
