Woodmancote claimed the last trophy of the season this evening when they overcame High Tech Rangers by a single goal to win a tight and tense Junior Cup Final at Kayte Lane. The two sides that had finished first and second in Division Three played out a game of very few chances in almost perfect conditions at Bishop's Cleeve's excellent home ground. A crowd of nearly 200 watched enthralled as High Tech Rangers, the Division Three Champions, proved as incapable of breaking down Woodmancote's defences as the League Runners up's 4 previous opponents in the Junior Charity Cup this season. The match was not without incident, however, although unfortunately the most noteworthy event was an apparently serious injury to a Woodmancote player just 12 minutes before the end of normal time, which required the player to be stretchered off and an ambulance to be called. No further details are available at present. Following a lengthy stoppage, the winning goal was scored 4 minutes after the resumption, when Sam Rimmer completed an excellent run with a shot that was turned home by a defender. High Tech then threw everything at Woodmancote as time ran out but the side that failed to concede a single goal in this year's competition held out to lift the cup |
