Cheltenham League Notice Board
It is the purpose of this Newsletter to communicate items of interest to Clubs and, in particular, their Secretaries, that were not necessarily discussed at the monthly Management Committee meetings. If anyone has anything that they would like to include on this newsletter, which will be circulated to all clubs and which will also be posted on the Leagues Web site, they are advised to contact the League's General Secretary by the Monday that immediately precedes the monthly Management Committee meeting, at the latest 1) Evening Kick Offs The time of year for late season evening matches is, once again, almost upon us and all clubs are referred to the final paragraph of league rule 10(b), which can be found on Page 25 of the Handbook, for guidance with regard to kick off times. In essence, all games in April should kick off not later than 6.15 pm except for those which are scheduled to be played during the week commencing Monday, April 24th, when kick off time should be no later than 6.30 pm. In addition, the League would seek to draw the attention of all clubs to the wording of the third paragraph of page 25 of the handbook, again within rule 10(b), which deals with the duration of matches. Please note that, if a game is to last less than 90 minutes, this must be agreed before the start by both captains in conjunction with the referee and that the game must consist of two equal halves. In accordance with the stipulations of rule 10(b), the shortest time that can be set for a match is 60 minutes - ie 30 minutes each way. 2 Entry Forms Any club which is in receipt of this newsletter and which has not returned the League Entry and Declaration forms to the League will now be fined £25, in accordance with League Rule 14(a). All clubs that have not returned the two forms by the due date of March 31st will have 7 further days to send the forms to the League's General Secretary. Any club that has still not returned the forms by April 7th will be charged with failing to satisfactorily attend to the business of the League, as stipulated by League Rule 5(h). Any fine imposed in accordance with this rule will be in addition to the original £25 and will be set at an amount that will be at the discretion of the League Management Committee Those clubs that have returned the forms will receive their Supplementary Information forms in the near future. These forms will have to be completed and returned by June 1st, 2006. 3 County Cup Finals The Cheltenham League has only one representative in a County Cup Final this year and AC Olympia are to be congratulated for their achievement in reaching the Primary Cup Final for a second successive year. Hopefully, they will go one better this year than last, when they finished as runners-up. This season, the final is against Victoria Celtic, from the Stroud League, and will be played on Tuesday, April 25th at Cirencester Town's Corinium Stadium. The best wishes of the whole of the League go with our sole County Cup survivors. 4 Senior Charity Cup Final The Semi Finals of the Senior Charity Cup were played last week under
floodlights at St Petersfield and Kayte Lane. In the first match, Smiths
Athletic Reserves, from Division Two, scored deep into extra time to edge
out Kings of Division One whilst the next night, in the second game, things
were even tighter. In the end, Winchcombe Town booked a second successive
final appearance with a 5-4 victory in the penalty competition that split
the two sides following a 2-2 draw. 5 Phoenix United & Tewkesbury Dynamos The League is delighted to report that it has received an excellent commendation, from a referee, of the conduct of Phoenix United and Tewkesbury Dynamos during a Division Four match on Saturday, March 25th, 2006. Despite the fact that this was a top of the table clash, between teams positioned 3rd & 1st respectively in the League before the start of the game, the referee informs the League that the behaviour of the two sides and the sportsmanship throughout was exemplary and that this made the match a joy to officiate. It is really pleasing to receive reports such as this and the conduct of these two sides is made even more noteworthy by the importance of the match in which it was displayed. Well done to both teams! 6 Charity Cup Semi Finals The Semi Final's of the Junior and Minor Charity Cups will be played
next week, on Tuesday 4th and Thursday 6th April. On Tuesday, 4th April,
AC Olympia will take on Woodmancote at Smiths Athletic in the Junior Cup,
whilst, nearby, Tewkesbury Town will meet Cleevonians in the Minor Cup
at Bishops Cleeve Playing Fields. Two days later, High Tech Rangers and
Phoenix United clash in the Junior Cup at Gala Wilton, at the same time
as Bredon III and Churchdown Panthers meet at Cheltenham Civil Service. 7 Contacting League Officials Other than in dire emergency, will all clubs please respect the requests made both on the Website and in the handbook each year and refrain from contacting League Officials on Sundays. Officers of the League are only to glad to help during the course of the week but they, and their long suffering families, really do appreciate this one day of rest that they therefore gain from League affairs. 3 General Secretary Unavailable The General Secretary will be on unavailable from April 4th to April 7th . During this time, the first point of contact should be LES FISHER, on 01242 602351, for general matters, or JOHN HUNT on 01242 583856 for matters relating to fixtures. Thanks,
