Cheltenham League Notice Board
It is the purpose of this Newsletter to communicate items of interest to Clubs and, in particular, their Secretaries, that were not necessarily discussed at the monthly Management Committee meetings. If anyone has anything that they would like to include on this newsletter, which will be circulated to all clubs and which will also be posted on the Leagues Web site, they are advised to contact the League's General Secretary by the Monday that immediately precedes the monthly Management Committee meeting, at the latest 1) Charity Cup Draw The Charity Cup Draw for matches scheduled to be played on Saturday, December 10th, 2005 is as follows Senior Charity Cup All competing clubs are reminded that Kick-off for these games is to be 1.45 pm, to take into account the fact that any game may require extra time and a penalty shoot out to reach a conclusion 2) Refereeing Advice Evening In the light of the wholesale lack of interest displayed by member clubs
to this proposal, there is no intention to proceed with it any further. 2. Post To Winchcombe In general, it should always be considered to be best practice to pay invoices received from the league by return post, to ensure that payment arrives with the League's Treasurer in plenty of time before the deadline. This is always two weeks after the date of the issue of the invoice. The folly of leaving payment until the last minute has been amply illustrated this season, when one club, who had already missed the first deadline, was suspended and therefore missed a fixture because their last minute payment took a week to reach Les Fisher in Winchcombe. Please bear in mind that this happened in October and that we are now entering a period, leading up to Christmas, when the post is notoriously less reliable than it is during the course of the rest of the year. Therefore, please ensure that any invoices that have to be paid during the month of December are sent to Les in plenty of time.3 Timing of Postponements Now that the weather has started to intervene in the fixture schedule,
a number of questions have been asked with regard to the timing of match
postponements. In general, if a fixture is in doubt, the League would
advise the home club to contact the away team as soon as possible on the
morning of the game. This would be to find out specifically the time at
which they are likely to depart for the match and the telephone number
of the person who is in charge of the team for that day. An initial decision
about the suitability of the pitch and the weather conditions can then
be taken just before the opposition leave. If there is no chance of play
at that time, the opposition should be informed immediately to stop them
travelling. However, if there is no reason to call the game off at that
time - for example, if there is fog but it is possible it might lift,
if the pitch is still slightly frozen but it might thaw - then the opposition
should be told this but advised to still travel. The final decision will
then rest with the Match Referee, who will make his decision with regard
to the viability of the game when he arrives at the ground. 4 Clubs Meeting in January The next Cheltenham League Club's meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th, 2006 and will be held at the Victory Club. Will all persons or clubs who have an item for inclusion on the agenda for this meeting please forward it to the League Secretary by Wednesday, 11th January 2006 at the latest. 5 League Historian The League's newly appointed Honorary Historian, Linda Wilson, is now up and running and hoping to produce her first periodic newsletter early in the New Year.
