Gala Wilton were crowned as League Champions last night when they defeated Winchcombe Town away in their final game by 3-1.

The most exciting finish to a Cheltenham League season in many long years was set up on Saturday, when the two rivals for the top spot, Gala Wilton and their visitors, Hatherley Rangers, met at the Gala club for a head to head that could have seen the home side make sure of the Championship had they won.

It was Hatherley who secured all three points, however, with an excellent 2-0 win to avenge the 3-0 defeat that they had suffered on their own ground against the same opposition at the end of March. That meant that, with one game left each, the two sides were locked together, both having 52 points from their 23 games. In the end, though, it was Gala who came out on top as they secured the all important win at the same time that Hatherley could only manage a draw away to Tewkesbury YMCA.

In the other divisions, Bishops Cleeve III's became Division Two Champions in the middle of April and Gala Wilton's reserve side took the honours in Division Three, a title that they had sewn up before the end of March. The lowest two dvisions both went to Tewkesbury sides, with the YMCA's Reserves making sure of top spot in Division Four whilst Tewkesbury Dynamos snatched the Division Five title from season long leaders, AC Olympia, with a 9-4 victory over Gas Green in their last game.

In the Junior Charity Cup, played at Bishops Cleeve's Kayte Lane ground last Friday, April 29th, St Marks III and Naunton Park shared 5 goals in an incident packed first half that saw St Marks go into the break with a 3-2 advantage. They held on to this until the last minute of regulation time, too, before Naunton Park sent the game into extra time with a last gasp equaliser. 30 extra minutes failed to produce a winner but Naunton Park secured the trophy 4-2 on penalties.
