Cheltenham League Notice Board
Clubs from the Cheltenham League have made sure that this will be a bumper year for the League in the GFA County Cup competitions below Senior Amateur level. The signs were good going into Saturday's 8 Semi Final ties in the four competitions, because the Cheltenham League provided 50% of the representation to make it this far. With one club in each of the Junior and Primary Cups but three in both the Intermediate and Minor, it meant that there were two all-Cheltenham league clashes in the respective last fours. Whilst this meant that the League was assured of at least one finalist in each of these competitions, it also meant that the maximum number of its sides that could win through, at the weekend, to a Final was 6. And this is exactly what happened! In the Junior Cup, our lone survivors were GALA Wilton and they now have a final against Longlevens to look forward to after running out 6-4 winners away to Redbrook Rovers of the North Glos League. In the Intermediate Cup, the Cheltenham League battle saw Moreton Rangers prevail by 3 goals to 2 at Star Reserves and their opponents will now be fellow Division Two side St Marks Reserves, who beat Southside from the Stroud League 4-2 on penalties after the scores following extra time had been tied at 3-3. In the Minor Cup, Hi Tec Rangers enjoyed an excellent 4-1 home win over Arlingham to set up an all Division 4 final with Woodmancote, who overcame Charlton Rovers, of Division Three, by 7-4. Meanwhile, to complete the Super Six, AC Olympia survived a missed penalty in the Primary Cup to register a 2-1 win at home to AFC Phoenix, again of the Stroud League. Congratulations to all of the Cheltenham League's finalists. At least two of the four cups are already destined for Cheltenham League clubs and, after the magnificent year that the League's sides have enjoyed in GFA Competitions this season, who is to say that this will not, ultimately, be all four!! |
