Cheltenham League Notice Board
The Cheltenham League can be rightfully proud of its representation in the Semi Finals of the Four County Cup Competitions below Senior Amateur level. Whilst, as normal, the Senior Amateur Cup is dominated by sides from the Northern Senior League, The Cheltenham League provides 8 of the Semi-Finalists in the Junior, Intermediate, Minor and Primary Competitions, a figure that represents 50% of the 16 teams that have won through to the penultimate round in their respective tournaments. Gala Wilton lead the way in the Junior competition, where they gained a 3-2 win at Westbury to book their place in the last four. Meanwhile, three of the survivors in the Intermediate Cup hail from the Cheltenham League, and pride of place went to St Marks Reserves with a stunning 9-1 away victory against Stroud League Trident in their Quarter final. Star Reserves and Moreton Rangers also triumphed on their travels, with excellent 4-1 and 3-2 wins at Tibberton and Alkerton respectively. The Minor Cup Semi finals are similarly dominated by the Cheltenham League, with another three of the last four places taken by Cheltenham League sides. With two all-Cheltenham League ties in the Quarter Finals, good representation was guaranteed and, in these matches, Hi Tec Rangers and Charlton Rovers prevailed 2-1 and 3-1 over Kings Reserves and Cheltenham Civil Service III respectively. Woodmancote managed to make it three in the semi's with a 2-1 home success over Kingswood. Finally, AC Olympia romped to a magnificent 5-2 victory over Cainscross DB in the Primary Cup that must have installed them as one of the favourites to lift the trophy at the end of the season. The Draw for the Semi-Finals takes place on Thursday and the games themselves
will be played on Saturday, March 5th. |
