Cheltenham League Notice Board
The newsletter that follows was issued to all clubs following the Emergency meeting of the League Management Committee, which was held at the Victory Club last Friday, October 15th 2004 To all Secretaries It is with the deepest regret that we have to report to you and your members the sudden death of our league secretary, Mr Peter Jurd, on 13th of October 2004. Peter had served on the Management Committee since 1987 and became General Secretary in 2002. Peter was also secretary at Smiths Athletic for many years before fully turning his attentions to the Cheltenham Football League. The Management Committee held a special meeting on Friday 15th October to pay tribute to Peter and to observe a one-minute silence in his memory. It was agreed that the Management Committee would continue to run the league for the foreseeable future The Committee has appointed Nick Oram to become Assistant Secretary; Nick will now be responsible for Fixtures and also the Cheltenham Football League web site. Secretaries should now deal with Nick on all fixture related matters. The Registration Secretary, Mr Terry Onions, will deal with all registration queries. The Referee's Secretary, Mr Arthur Stiley, will deal with all referees queries. The Treasurer, Mr Les Fisher, will deal with all results and general enquiries. The Management Committee of the Cheltenham League would like to advertise the vacancy of General Secretary; all interested applicants should apply to Mr Les Fisher. The Funeral Service of the League's Honorary General Secretary, Peter Jurd, will be held on Thursday, 21st October at 9.30am. It will take place at All Saints Church, All Saints Road, Cheltenham. All clubs are invited to attend, as are all individuals who feel that they would like to pay their last respects to Peter. The congregation will also be invited to retire to the Smiths Club at Newlands in Bishops Cleeve after the service.
